Description: 
The decision on national regional development targets specifies the goals of the Regional Development Act and establishes the priorities of regional development measures at national level for the Government’s term of office 2007 - 2011. It also specifies and complements the objectives and measures of the present Government Programme. The decision on national regional development targets directs and coordinates regional strategic programmes and the regional development targets and measures of different administrative sectors. In their activities, State authorities take account of the national regional development targets, promote the implementation of these targets and evaluate the impact of their measures on regional development. The decision on national regional development targets aims to strengthen regional competitiveness and economic growth, which ensures that the regions can operate efficiently in an open economy. This can be achieved by improving the expertise of regions and developing their own strengths. The aim is also to secure the basic regional infrastructure and the standard of service. At the same time, the aim is to create a balanced regional structure which keeps all the regions viable and enables a smoother economic growth and employment throughout the country. The strategy also include the target for ecosociety and use of RES and more efficient use of energy. Biomass as a source of innovations and energy is mentioned.
