Description:
Law 34/2007 aims to prevent, monitor and reduce atmospheric pollution in order to avoid or decrease the damage that could result from it to people, the environment and other assets. It establishes that municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants should operate assessment facilities and networks, inform the public about air quality and pollution levels and draw up plans and programmes to meet the established air quality targets. In this sense, it urges the Government together with Regional Governments, to establish quality targets and emission limits for pollutants and activities. It also determines when and how Regional Governments and local authorities should assess air quality. It is worth noting that the Act requires the Public Administration to include considerations regarding atmospheric protection in the planning of sectoral policies, as well as to establish indicators to improve knowledge of the state of pollution and assess the efficacy of the adopted measures.
